Homosexuality: Is it Natural?

This will not be a long essay. It is not necessary that it should be; fortunately there are some phenomena in nature whose definitive parameters are thankfully easy to examine, and homosexuality is one of them.

Many years ago it was almost universally believed that homosexuality was unnatural. But then, beginning in the 1960s, a modern kind of nouveau culture appeared which placed an emphasis upon social rights and equality rather than on truth and right, and the thought that homosexuality was unnatural was stigmatised, socially tainted, and rendered narrow-minded and "square".

Well that is all very well--- but such "politically correct" social regimes only exist to promote the toleration in society of people who are in some way different, and to brush the truth aside if necessary in order to enforce that toleration.

But as analysts, it is the truth, and not the toleration, that we are interested in. Is homosexuality natural?

Well, consider a scenario in which all females were lesbians who would not allow a male near them, and all males were homosexuals who had not the slightest interest in fertilising a female. How long would that race last? The answer is of course appalling: by zoological standards its population would go into absolute freefall. No babies at all would be born. It would crash out of existence. If a million years later some alien paleontologist were to land on earth and study the human fossil record, he would see a natural and progressive record of human evolution and development tracing its way through layer after layer of rocks -- only for their race to then suddenly and mysteriously crash within less than a millimetre of stratum.

To him this would be so disastrous, so unbelievably abnormal an event, that he would at once begin to formulate theories about super-viruses and giant comets hitting the earth. It would not at once occur to him that this once healthy race had suddenly taken it upon itself to embrace homosexuality and that all procreation had abruptly ceased.

Human beings are of course the end products of a healthy evolutionary line whose heterosexuality has guaranteed its future and survival. And precisely because they are the end product of such a line, the social behaviour which they have adopted in order to reach the present day along that line, now defines them. It is not only unnatural, but unnatural by definition that such a race should suddenly turn its back on the essential heterosexuality to which it owes its survival.

Homosexuality is not only unnatural therefore, it is also so blatantly unnatural that if universally practiced its destructive consequences on the human race would be Total.

Few phenomena in nature are quite that unnatural.

Note:
1. Of course, many illogical people who have difficulty in rationalising -- and regrettably there are many-- will be accusing me by now of being "traditional". This is not correct: I only have one character and elsewhere on this website they will see me being very untraditional indeed. The unifying common denominator between this essay and the others is of course that I don't do tradition -- I do reasoned logic.

2. I had a dentist who was gay. He threw me off his list for calling him the Tooth Fairy. Talk about ‘oversensitive’! I was joking. I’m not gay myself but I have lots of friends who are.
